Reach fw3 around 10plus am.Wah sian lor fish release liao,saw ang kuay being hook up so cheong lar.Went to my usual spot and 1st cast hook on ..was thinking heng arh den suddenly the line break.Reel back and saw leader broken wah sian,shouldnt use a used leader.Nvm rebait and throw same spot and hook on instantly.Fight was gd. Subenqently i got 4 more fish during that hour.1st hour 5 fish was like quite lucky compared to the regular there who got 1 to 2 fish..Subenqently lose 2 to 3 fish due to cut from the drain area and net area.Final score 7 fish.

2 Twn(around 2kg) Ngoh 5 Ack(around 1pluskg)Seems like the best pond i ever visited.

Went to recce the new operating Ed pro pond and found it was good. Fish caught was quite constant throughout. Caught 7 GPs and 01 3kg sagai which was CNR. Big chos landed by other fishos. Rate: good to go.

Finally we get to go offshore once again.Boatsman is Ah fong.Took around ah hour to to reach changi naval base.Catch was miserable as only 7 pieces was caugth (1ack and 1 grouper caught by ah fong).Weather was fine ,water looks good,current strong(Freddy,Seow,Koon seasick) and bites were poor.First half of the day only 1 small ack caught,towards 1plus caught 1 ack around 2kg follow by 1 500g deep seabass...wait wait wait .....3plus caught 1 900g ack ..wait wait ....4plus up 1 900g ack follow by 1 900g grouper..end of day.Was indeed a boring affair but the guys still had some fun.

Lets wait for our warriors in Thailand to be back for our next Southern island trip.

Since last month night offshore fishing didnt get any chance to go wet my line so decided to give Ah tiong a try but upon reaching there around 9plus saw the cr not very impressive so decided to go pprp to try out my luck.upon reaching there saw quite a few dead fish in the water (anyway they release fish at 12)so haiz was thinking so suay meh..decided to giv fw3 my last option else go home.To my suprise no1 was fishing so went over and check with the operator hows the water coz its been raining cats and dogs for the last few week.Of couese sure say good but theres one thing which interest me which is he say hess gg to release fish at 10(wah i was thinking no1 around i bao ti liao..song).Fish release den ppl start coming in.For the 1st hour only get 1 ack around 1kg plus and lose 1ack n twn ngoh when pulling fish out of water.Theres this guy keep coming up fish.Was thinking wah pro lor so started to talk to him lor.Told me that this pond fishes are scatter around so told me not to stay put at 1 area.True enough got 1 twn after spot change den came his friend an old uncle(even more pro).Lent him my rod to try his proness and sure enough within 2 mins out came 1 twn nogh.Uncle told me which area twn nogh r normally found and say they come in small group.once u got 1 there dun move continue to stay around and true enough i got 2 more within each prawn change.Fight was gd as all above 1kg.Around 1plus was doing some trolling and piang the fish took off with no lar lang and was thinking is it sagai coz there was 1 sagai up not long b4.fight for around 10mins and the fish surface.wah shiok arh around 2plus kg ACK(never had tt feeling since the keppel event).

After work..... Weather was seriously hot and sunny! We met up and gather at FW3, lazily setting up our rigs and making dough. Setting out lines and lazily waiting for the hook ups. The whole pond was quiet.... I got bored and change to lure... after a few attempts... there was a strong pull follow by a hard let go, I assumed the fish had spit out the lure, not satisfy with the result, cast a few more time and had a hard pull, this time it sped out and I had a great time fighting.... I tot it was a sea bass but upon landing, it was a big cat, but the lure was hooked onto the body....

The Ah neh didnt want to carry it up because he was afraid of being stinged....

After a while, ah koon's 4'6" rod bend, he was quick with the striking and he too, begins his battle. Being on light tackle rod, its so flexible u wont be able to pull in the fish easily, on light reel and line, u cannot tighten ur tension too much or the 10lb line will snap, its really exciting to play along with the fish understanding its nature, aggressiveness, and speed. From understanding, u can play along with the fish. Whats the point of bringing in the fish in less than 2 minutes with a heavy tackle when u waited so looooooong just to hook up a "to-be released" fish....

After ah koon's show, the pond went dead for the next 2 hours before my rod bend.... I was also quick on setting the hook and after playing with the fish for 5 mins, I felt something was wrong, when a fish stop moving, and u can hardly move it by reeling it in, u know its a heavy fish. From then, I know its going to take at least 1 hour with light tackle..... so 20 mins passed, i started passing my rod, 45 mins passed, a few passing took place and fianally the bugger surfaced twice.... a big mama Chao Phraya, 1hr 15 passed, we even follow the fish 3 quarter around the pond passing to each other over small trees, 1hr 45 mins...... I was holding on while the fish pulls out followed by a hard *Snap*... there goes the main line!! When we turned around, there were a family and 2 pairs of friends supporting.... We thanked them for the support but had to disappoint them for the unfortunate event....

During the entire fight, ah koon's rod landed fish 3 times, it was 2 patin and 1 koi

As we were on our last bait, we refuse to bring up without getting a hook, but we were more or less prepared for nothing, suddenly my rod bend!! I immediately strike my rod to set in the hook and it was pulling very very fast, I told ah koon its either a big pacu or sea bass. It keep pulling across the pond and would swim back very fast, this fish is smart and knows how to unhook itself, when a line loosen with a "de-barbed" hook, its very very easy to unhook..... so each time the line loosen, I would reel back double quick time to tighten back the line.......

20 mins passed, as the fish slowed down... I begin to suspect another Chao Phraya on line..... I passed to ah kooh and we passed around but this time we set the reel with a tighten tension and constantly reeling in and pumping in small angle near 90 degree upright to maximise the tightness of the rod and line... almost 1 hr later, the fish finally surface and it was a smaller Chao Phraya, its looking tired from our aggressive tackle and finally, seeing its not struggling anymore, I hold on my spool to lock it from being dragged by the weight of the fish and bring my rod tip to guide the fish to the right side of the pond so the ah neh could carry the fish up for us to take some good shots............

Its a couple fishing night! Warrior 9001 and DaTiToo couldn't make it as they went sent overseas to work. warrior 5664 and pTui decided to asked their spouse to fill up the empty slots.

When you have a big group, being there late is unavoidable, so eventually we board the boat around 8pm. Left to get baits and then to fishing spots.... It was dark already, so we didnt know where the boatman brought us, but we from the vague scenery, we could tell its changi area.

Everyone onboard heard that fishing during the night was either super low bite rate or biggies. But surprisingly the bite rate was very good this particular night, but alittle unexpected though...

The first spot was the best, the first few hook ups were catfish, then cat after cat after cat, then came along Ang Kuay. But when there were too much of cats, we deicded to shift our spot.

Upon reaching, the first hook up was another CAT!!! and occasionally came a shark, follow by cats and later on came some eels....

The next few spots were almost the same... this night seems to be some cat fishing frenzy.... but all of the cats were released on the spot. The reason why we didnt take any home, was because cats were known for its slimy body and slight stinky odour when cooked. Its best to cook in hot chillie or fried where most malay love.... How eveny one wish this night, the cats could be replaced by groupers......

Other than just fishing, every one managed to get along well with one another, we brought suppers and hot coffee, the night was very quiet and cooling accompanied with a beautiful round moon. We didnt bring home much fish but we had a great time overall.

Sagai warriors hadn't been around to write recently. Yes, we still fish around here and there, but we were pretty occupied with our work commitment, we more or less work the same kinda of job so once we are "fish on" , you'll see us here all the time. Once we "fish off" to work, This blog turns into a dead zone.... lol

Anyway we got 3-4 members working overseas for 2 mths, lets hope they'll bring back some nice pic/vid/stories on biggies out there.....

At the mean time, give me some time to compile pics from the last off shore....

Our ladies were having fun and leaving us guys alone, in the end, we decided to do what MEN love doing... Fishing~~

Damien, Jay and myself had a wonderful time, didnt take much pic but most of us had cats, everyone landed fishes with different variety of baits.... Dough, fish, dead/life prawns, chicken liver and lure.

I've been landing 5 of these this day.

Jay had many losses because he wasn't prepare for the biggies with his smaller rigs, but he did land a big pacu. His losses were aggressive pulls from the rods...

Havent been fishing at saltwater pond for a long time, so jio desmond along on tuesday morning.

Overall catch was ok, landed 2 before net release and 3 during and after net release.

3 Ang kuay were kept in Ah tiong's freezer as they stopped moving after deep throating the hooks. So no pic. the rest of the fishes are below.

Saltwater Prawning is back

Was told by freddy that FNR got some posts on saltwater prawning, so take a look at it and went recce. Found it and this is the result( 40 pieces). $39 for 4 hr and the glass prawn tastes extreme delicious and be cooked in any way you like especially drunken prawn. Believe des, seow & pang all tried before in FW3. Thanks to freddy, seems that i will spend alot on this. Cheer.

The place was quite packed and managed to settle at one corner. There are many OJT which cast with no license and throw wherever they liked. Saw alot of big TWN landed, approx 5kg plus and also big AK. Managed to land a 3kg AK & 2 GP.

Bites was slow in the morning and the most of the catches was caught by daditoo as he resigned from the golden egg club with his new rod. Bites slighly improve after lunch which finally ends up with everyone of us also have some catch.

With some warriors on leave, they decided to organise a fishing event, we joined them after work and had some wonderful time fishing n chatting away. pTui came to join in the fun for 2 hours and still managed to land 1 sea bass.

Everyone lands at least 1 fish but the majority are just sea bass and medium size cats. The interesting thing was, 1 sea bass and 1 cat was caught using lure, but was not capture on video.

Today alot of giant in the pond. Saw people kanna TWN & AC about 4-5 kg type, the TWN was super big and tattoo paid them to release back to the pond. The GP i caught was slightly above 2.5 kg on my boga. Fight was damm solid. Btw, there is a extreme big gao still in the pond, estimate min of 5 kg above as it swim around.

I was thinking of getting new rods and I want it seriously, I mean seriously considering the right rod. Always curious when people talked about PE 3-7, PE 4-8, 5-10 etc etc... What's all these means ?? Whey rod sellers states the PE when selling rods. After searching around for a while, i think I understand a little more about PE. But why not let me show what I've found...

Ah! if that's the case, then what IS PE 2.6 according to the current technology of fishing lines?

Also, not forgetting that owing to advancement in blank technology too, the 1/3 of Max Rod Rating to gauge Max Drag of Rod does not apply for many rods anymore too. - which makes things even more complicated!

fishing is still as simple as it is until we try to go technical

To me PE rating is a measurment of thickness, I'll ignore the strength rating ( Eg. PE4 = 54.56778543lbs ). If the rod is rated 2-4, i'll look for a line in the PE 2-4 region and choose the most suitable one for my rod. Suitable in term of thickness.

Putting all the breaking strength/max load/max drag rating aside, the physical dimension of the line, reel and rod must match.

Once that is match, you'll feel very comfortable and the whole setup will be very nice to fish with.

So will I load PE 8 (which is 100lbs) onto a rod rated PE5-8(80lbs)?

Morning was damm boring as there as was no bites at all . Weather was extreme hot. Spot after spot but still no fish. Only by 3 plus, the fishes started to bite. All warriors landed with something. Lets the pictures do the talking. Enjoy.

Need to know the full details on what time meet, what time end, how much per person and how many slots.
Will embark at changi terminal ( beside changi hawker centre) at 8am. Normally we will meet & take breakfast first. Boatman will then buy live prawn from the kelong and then we will proceed to the spot. heard that the chermin spot was found. It normally ends at about 5 plus, reach terminal at about 6pm. Each pax is about 50 -70 depending on how many people is on board.

Need new boat rod. Need to go stock up. need to arrange a date to do these
Prepare about 5 sets of hooks meaning leader is about 2 metres with hook size 3 -4. weight range from 4-12 depending on the current. Last trip we used size 4 weight only as current not strong.

Anglers are worried and fed-up over the "Boh Fish" Pasir Ris pro pond not interested in doing business. They claim when fishing, they didnt see any fishes released from the net. When asked, staff claimed "released already" with "god knows when" did they really release.

2nd worried over "loh jiak loh jiak" Pasir Ris Event pond (catch and Release) which is next to Pro pond has increased their charges from $50 for 3 hrs to $60, this new change includes keeping landed fishes 2kg and below. This extra $10 could start a island wide increment of pay pond's price.

Dry Ice: how to use it to keep your catch fresher.
We fishos typically use iceboxes to store our catches. But by the time we get home, all our fishes had turned pale from being soaked in water because the ice had melted.

Don't you wish there's a better way to keep your fishes cold and yet dry ?
Yes, there is, and dry ice is probably your obvious choice.
However, a lot of fishos are not sure of how they should make use of dry ice properly.

They probably think they can just plonk their fishes into an icebox filled with dry ice, and they would all be nicely frozen.
Wrong.
Heard of "freezer burns" ? That's what will happen to your prized catches.
When defrosted, the fishes will turn soggy and tasteless.
So the 1st lesson to remember is: never super-freeze your fishes by direct contact with dry ice.

The effective cold area of dry ice is about 3 cm only.
If I put a can of beer on dry ice, it will freeze solid.
But put a beer 5cm away, it will remain nice and warm !
Lesson 2: the cooling distance of dry ice is VERY LIMITED.

Dry ice property is such that it will super-freeze anything it touches.
Anything else not in direct contact, it has practically no effect on them.
There is no in-between temperature range.

Well, how about putting a few layers of newspaper between the dry ice and the fishes ? No direct contact, so no chance of freezer burns, right ?
Right. But your fishes will all be warm and rotten by the time you take them home. Newspaper is a heat insulator. No heat transfer = no cooling effect.

"Oh wait a minute!" one of you might say.
"According to my long-ago school day physics theory on Conservation of Energy , as long as we keep the icebox air tight, the fishes will eventually get chilled as the heat energy from the fish will flow to the dry ice although there is no contact between them."

Yes, true. But for that to work, the icebox has to be a perfect hermetically-sealed chamber, where there is no heat gain from outside source.

A normal icebox is not air tight, nor is its thermal insulation efficient. Heat from the outside will leak in.
That's why an icebox packed full with fish and ice chips will still eventually end up being soaked in cold water. Outside heat had leaked in.

It is a good practice to put a layer of newspaper to cover the top of your ice before you close the box lid down. It helps to seal off outside heat from entering.

So, how should you make use of dry ice to keep your catches fresh ?

This is how I'd done it.

1) Put plenty of dry ice at bottom of icebox.
2) Put a thick layer of ice cubes/ice chips to cover dry ice.
3) Put in layer of fishes.
4) Put in thin layer of ice cubes/ ice chips.
5) Repeat 3) and 4) until icebox is full.
6) Put a layer of newspaper on top. It helps to seal off heat from outside that leaks in thru the lid.
7) Close the lid.

This is what happens inside the icebox.
1) Ice melts slowly, water trickles downwards.
2) Water contacts dry ice, freezes immly.
3) No water puddle, no soggy fishes. Temperature always below 0 degree.
4) Fishes not in direct contact with dry ice, so no freezer burns.

This process will remain status quo until the dry ice runs out.
What's keeping the fishes fresh is not the dry ice. It's the humble ice cubes.
What the dry ice is doing is sarcrifice itself by absorbing heat from water and evaporates away as CO2 gas.

No.Fishes: 9Start at 230pm and lucky to have 2X release of fish. Got 3 Gp within 5 mins and misses many. Lost one big ACK as i saw the hook was near to the lip, when almost coming up that time, the worst happen and my hook flew upwards, believe that the lip should have torn apart. Gave one TWN to 2 china man as they got 1 gp for the whole of 3 hrs. Overall feel shiok as there are alot of GPs playing with your bait.

I didnt had a good time yesterday at FW3, all small fish and went home half way passing the ticket to finn, later he and his friend keep hitting the big ones!! Not very satify on hearing those, I called finn at 7.45 am in the morning to dig him back to the battlefield .......

Not much big fishies in the first hr....... further more, someone landed a mekong on the opposit, but very soon finn started hitting on a some bigger ones, after that, the biggies keep coming in. The second big one was an approx 10kg seabass, I strike it when there is a hard vibration, something enormous shoot out of the water once.... OMG Super big Seabass, srtike again making sure of a "hook on" Shoot out of the water once more...... my small reel and 10lb fire line keep going "zz.zzzzzz.zzzzz" and my itchy finger pressed on the reel and "piak" bye bye.... I swear to land this bugger next time.....

Took leave to celebrate my wife b'day But since she was working, jioed finn to fish with me at FW3. First 2 hours landed 2.

I went home at 3++pm and finn took over. Just had a call from him, he landed 2 fish. Complained my 10lb fire line was either too thin or my knot was tied wrongly, he kena a monster, fight for some time n the main line broke off at the knot!

Finn Landed a chaopayai catfish and a retail cat fish after I left, our other warrior hit some small talipia and a redtail late at night....

It was a very happening offshore fishing with alot of action in the morning. Gaos after gaos, furthermore is "Lao Hu Pan". Total catch 24 gaos, 3 stingray ( 2 was CNR as the size was small) 6 ACK and 1 arumugan.

This puts pressure on the stomach, the intestines and other internal organs. To return the fish safely, you must vent those gases.And you must do it without further injury to the fish. Don’t try to force the stomach or other organs back into the body cavity. DO NOT vent the gases by puncturing the protruding stomach or going through the anus. The fish will probably swim away but won’t live.

Most fish are hardy and can survive this trauma, if properly deflated, he will survive, get bigger and reproduce. Here is how you do it:

* Use a deflating tool (an atheletic ball inflation needle ground to a sharp point or a carpet needle).
* Insert it through the thin part of the body wall on the underside of the belly below the pectoral fin.
* Squeeze the fish gently to force the gases out through the tube or needle.
* Do this quickly and very soon after capture
* Release the fish holding him in the water until he can swim away.

No catch for the first hour. At about 8pm fish were released. I parked my float just infront of the net near the ang kuay spot, less than a min, the float sank and my line was pulled far far away from me and than the line slack and lost it.
Recast to the same spot, the float sank under the net and my line stuck at the net.
Try the 3rd time , same spot and in about 5 mins, it sank again, this time round, i got it.
In the end, 3 ACK landed and lost 4. Overall, it was quite fun as the bite after the release was good.

Quite a fun day although the catch is not much ( 8 pieces, there is one milkfish which we sashimi it). All of us got misses but in the end 2 big cho was landed ( 2.78kg & 2.5kg). A bit "ai wan" was that the 3rd prize fish weighted 2.86kg.

was itching for fishing. Went to tatoo the fishes in other's net were good. A wide varity and a approx 3kg groupa. Went to prpp to check, the pond was dead quiet w a handful dead fish floating ard. Gave up and check out Prmp, heard the releasing the fish soon, so we try 1 rod. Within 15min landed a red snapper on my light tackle rod. It was fun tackling thought the red was not big. Shall wait n c if more to come.... Brought to u live at PRMP Ti§h.

It started raining after i get the first kim chio. Bites stop for half an hour. After that i begin full swing for GP. Small bait and "Lo jiak". Very shiok. After that, changed to the edge of the net and managed to get the AK & ACK. Best thing is that i broke my record of 8.
